Thesis Title: The lack of African American characters in the role of superhero on film and the cognitive affects this has African American children.
About
My primary research interests are:
1.Literature/Film/Video Affects of children's psycho-social behavior
2.Children’s Literacy and their Social Identity.
My goal is to instruct college level students to teach students how to learn from one of the most influential forms of media - FILM&TV.
I look forward to developing my past research with a socio-cultural lens.
The Lack of African American characters in the role of superhero on film and the congnitive affects this has on African American children.
Phyllis Wheatley: She Wore the Masks of Freedom (A real life super hero)
From Mammie to Princess: Disney’s Colored Animation of the Black Female
Each of theses research projects that I have completed with the Ronald E. McNair program has allowed me the opportunity to explore my undergrad interests and develop them into real life application. As a doctoral student, I plan to continue research of cognitive development from a socio-cultural lens to investigate adolescent thinking.
My tertiary preoccupation is healthcare. This explains my early interest as a college student of pursuing a psychology degree and medical school, before I chose medical administration in technical school. I have worked in the medical industry for over 10 years as a liaison between doctors, nurses, patients and their families in Winship Cancer Institute, Rollins School of Public Health and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.
I hope that in this lifetime I can combine all of my passion and leave a lasting impression with published journal articles, books - fiction and non-fiction, screenplays and much more!
